APS Score as widely known is simply Admission Points Score. APS comes into play when students’ matric average mark is converted. APS Score is mostly used by universities during applications so as to know if a prospective student qualifies to enroll in the said University.

APS Score plays an integral part in admissions. In a way, it is a tool that helps determine if an applicant fits into the Medical Field or Law field. Also every university and their required APS score marks. University A would accept a certain pass mark for APS Score but University B might ignore such a mark in their requirements. Though certain marks are regarded and accepted by most of the Universities in South Africa. But with APS the scoring 42 is the mark which is tagged as the highest APS. With this score, an applicant can make an entry to any of the A-List South African Universities. 

How To Calculate APS Score

As mentioned earlier in the post, each university has its criteria and a minimum APS mark which can grant an applicant an entry to the university. As the saying goes ‘One man’s meat is another man’s poison’’ which literally means a said pass mark would grant you access to University A but that same pass mark would be rejected by University B. 

Aside from the University itself, faculties also play a role as far as the calculation of APS is concerned. Some a minimum of 6 subjects are accepted to use for the calculation of APS while others 7 subjects. 

What APS Score Can Guarantee a Bachelor’s degree?

With a 50% score in Mathematics and Language respectively, an APS of 21 can be used to attain a bachelor’s degree.
